Born in Philadelphia, Huneker studied piano in Philadelphia and Paris. Arnold T. Schwab, who was born in Los Angeles, CA in 1922, received his A.B. from UCLA, where he was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate, and his MA and Ph.D. from Harvard University. For most of his career, he was professor of English at California State University, Long Beach until his retirement in 1980.
